This site design is my first wholehearted attempt at designing a site by myself, from the ground up. It is also my first time creating a WordPress theme. As the warm weather always ends to soon here in Michigan, I wanted the site to have plenty of whitespace and evoke an airy, springtime feel. Something to lift my spirits during the winter doldrums.
Behind the Scenes
amuhlou.com is valid against the XHTML 1.0 Transitional doctype, using valid CSS 2.1 excluding the @font-face embedding mentioned below. The site utilizes semantic markup and passes at minimum the WCAG Prirority 1 Checkpoints for Accessibility.
amuhlou.com is tested in Firefox 3+, Chrome, Safari, and IE7+. Sorry IE6 users (especially those of you that are forced to use it), but it’s almost 2010 and there are two newer versions of Internet Explorer out at this point.
The amuhlou logo uses ITC Avante Garde Gothic. I fell in love with how uniform it made the letters look while being playful and approachable. Headings are set in TeX Gyre Adventor, a font whose license allows @font-face embedding in CSS. Note that Firefox versions below 3.5 do not support font-face embedding.
